Cedarvale Park is now… clean!
Posted on December 1st, 2010
Another fall, another park cleaned up. We’d like to thank all the volunteers who helped clean up Cedarvale Park this November! The weather cooperated and gave us a beautiful day of sunshine and 15 degree weather late in November, and we took advantage to clean up a large portion of Cedarvale park and the Cedarvale ravine. After warming up with some fresh hot coffee, we set out to pick up as much junk as possible. Thankfully the open areas of the park had been cleaned up by the volunteer team at ZM Cycle & Fitness the previous weekend as part of the Canadian National Cyclocross Championships, but the ravine and the wooded areas of the park were still bristling with garbage that hadn’t been touched for years.
As usual, we gathered bags of the typical garbage – plastic bags, candy wrappers, pop cans, beer bottles, and food packaging. We also found a tire that someone threw out under the Glen Cedar pedestrian bridge to avoid paying the disposal fees. Some of the more surprising items this time included a broken chair, a can of “Santa Snow” artificial snow spray, an election sign from the municipal election (Mr. Chaleff-Freudenthaler), and even a perfectly functional – if rusty – granny cart!
Join us next spring for our next park cleanup in the ward. If you would like to nominate a park for a cleanup, contact us at stpaulsgreens@greenparty.ca!
Update: Our park cleanup was covered in Snap North Toronto! Check out the great pictures on the Snap site.
